Sole F80 Review

>> A solid purchase!, By Pookapuff "pookapuff" (Schenectady, NY)) <<

This is my first treadmill ever, and I was nervous to spend so much money, but all the reviews everywhere (here and on Consumer Reports) said that the Sole F80 was the best at-home treadmill you could buy. Why buy a cheaper one that will break in a year? You can't beat the awesome warranty on frame, parts, and even labor. So with peace of mind, I took the plunge and placed my order.

First off it is VERY HEAVY and even my weight-lifting husband had trouble dragging it into the garage. But once, in place, it assembled fairly easily--the trickiest part was the plastic cover pieces - it is nearly impossible to reach or see the screw holes in some areas--but those are really for looks anyway. I just took my first run on it and I am TRULY IMPRESSED - I've run on treadmills at the gym before, and this is definitely comparable. It is solidly constructed, very stable, has a smooth tread, the interface is nice, and has all the basics you need - time, speed, mileage, incline, calorie count, cup holders galore, plus a few extras like heart monitor handles (and separate chest transmitter), a fan, and the ability to be folded up and rolled away.

There are a few slight downsides if you are used to professional-grade treadmills at gyms, but IMO these don't take away from the product AT ALL:

> It is a little slower to speed up/slow down and to raise/lower the bed than models I've experienced at the gym--but only barely--and there are preset levels for both incline and speed so you can more quickly jump up/down.

> The speakers truly suck, but hey, do you really need speakers on a treadmill? I have an iHome for my iPod and a tv with DVD player nearby, and now a treadmill--what more could I ask for?

I am just so happy to own my very own treadmill to keep me going, and I very much look forward to maintaining my running regime over the harsh upstate New York winter, for once. Thanks Sole for making such a great product!

>> Great Treadmill Value vs Price, By Aaon A. Herbert "boomersooner" (Dallas, Texas) <<

I have worked out and used various types of treadmills and ellipticals now for about 20 years. I have owned an elliptical that put me back $3,500 that I ended up not enjoying as much as I thought I would, a recumbent bike I spent $300 on that got daily use for 2 years, and a rowing machine that was $140.00 off amazon and an insane value at that price.

So in shopping for a treadmill I spend alot of time looking at the sub $1K range thinking there must be a bargain for under a grand, but eventually went with this Sole F80 treadmill at the $1,400 price because of all the great reviews. I am glad I did. It had a great interface and is rock solid when running on it, plus it folds up to about a foot deep of space when not in use.

The only issue I had was with plastic molding in one tiny little place it didn't line up "exactly" right so that it seemed to be slightly off, its really not that noticeable and the company offered to send out another plastic piece...turns out after a few times using it this piece just worked itself into place. Installing several of the pieces takes patience, but its really a simple install. Be far-warned, and I cannot say this enough, this is one heavy SOB!!! The shipping company is just going to drop it off at the curb unless you select the delivery option"to your door".

If you live or plan on moving this upstairs, call a moving company to have a couple guys with a dolly move the box. I'm 6' tall and 185 and workout alot, but this thing is in a long box that weighs 350lbs, your going to kill your back moving this, I called a moving company and paid 2 guys $50 to move it up my stairs (they didn't bring a dolly, carried it by hand and complained about how heavy it was!!!).

I found out later when I hired the same company to move some furniture that one of the movers hurt his back while moving the treadmill and is now on permanent disability!! This treadmill is as good as those in the gym.

>> I Love this Treadmill, By Priscilla Grant "Peegee" (Riverside, CA) <<

This is my first treadmill and I'm loving having it. I'm a runner and I run in all kinds of weather, but sometimes it's a hassel, especially if you want to run everyday, not anymore. Don't get me wrong, I still run outside and often, but that's in the evening, when it's nice out. I run on this treadmill every morning. I get out of bed, brush my teeth, start the coffee, go out to the garage, crank up the sounds and get on the treadmill, where I warm up by jogging slowly for fifteen minutes, then I run flat out for a solid half hour, then I hit the shower and get my coffee.

My friends I run too much, but I like it. I'm not training for a marathon, not trying to set any records, but if I run every morning on this machine and do my five miles in the park in the evening two or three times a week, I just feel good.

The only downside to this Sole F80 treadmill is that the speakers aren't very good, but I have a Bose Wave radio in the garage with an iPod charger/play through adapter hooked up to it, so I don't really use the treadmill's built in speakers. Buy F80 Treadmill

The delivery guys who dropped off the treadmill were more than friendly and when I offered them a generous tip if they'd stay and assemble the machine, they did. I probably should have stayed and watched so I could report on how easy it was, but my sister was over with her baby and that was more important to me at the time. But the guys had it up and running in no time and they said it was a piece of cake.

As for the machine itself, I love running on it. Outside I refuse to run on pavement, because I want my feet, shins, knees and everything else to be working when I age. I stick to the grass in a very big park. Running on this machine is luxury and my joints are appreciating it.

But for me, what I really like about this treadmill is that because the running surface is so much more soft than the hard ground is that I've taken to running barefoot on it. I was worried at first, but I've got a couple hundred mile of barefoot running on this machine and my feet feel fine and my joints aren't screaming.

All in all, this treadmill is a great addition to my life. I love this Sole F80, I really do.
